Onomichi Beer Tour
Visit the Onomichi Brewery which utilizes an old storehouse. After learning about the brewing process of craft beer, grab a glass of Onomichi-made beer in you hand and enjoy ICHIROKU cycling. Enjoy the extraordinary experience of pedaling in the scenery of Onomichi while drinking beer.
Onomichi Past-and-Present Tour
Enjoy cycling with a nice and crispy CASTLE ROCK croissant and a special drink using the vinegar which played an important role in enriching the food culture of Onomichi. The tour stops by at the oldest vinegar storehouse in Japan, which is not normally open to the public. You will have a chance to learn about the history of vinegar brewing and the brewing process.
Kairyu-Ji Temple, Sennyu-Ji sect of Shingon Buddhism
One of the temples of "Onomichi 7-Temple Tour". 5 colored strings in the precinct are connected to the hand of principal image of Buddha. Wishes will be fulfilled by praying on holding these strings. There is a tomb of Bunraku famous for Ningyo-Joruri (traditional puppet theater), and it is said that wishing in mind stroking the mound of Buddhist chant, your performance will improve.
Jodo-Ji Temple, the headquarters of Sennyu-Ji sect of Shingon Buddhism
One of the temples of "Onomichi 7-Temple Tour". There is a "Wishing Stone" in front of the hall which Kyugoro Jinmaku, a Yokozuna sumo wrestler dedicated to this temple. It is said that turning this stone as you pray, your wishes come true. There are some treasures garnered here, only seen at the time of unveiling.
Saigoku-Ji Temple, the headquarters of Daigo sect of Shingon Buddhism
One of the temples of "Onomichi 7-Temple Tour". Nighttime light-up performance since April of 2019. Lighting system was designed by Ms. Mikiko Ishii, who also designed lighting for the Outer Garden of Imperial Palace, Tokyo Tower and Rainbow Bridge. Nighttime light-up performance from sunset to 22:00 everyday.
Daisen-Ji Temple, Daigo sect of Shingon Buddhism
One of the temples of "Onomichi 7-Temple Tour". After praying at the main temple, give it a try with Jizo-Statue called "Light or Heavy Jizo". If you lift him easily, then your wish will be fulfilled, or if too heavy to lift, then will not. Another statue is "Rubbing Kannon" which gives you healing power by rubbing your affection part on the Kannon statue.
Senko-Ji Temple, Shingon Sect
One of the temples of "Onomichi 7-Temple Tour". Many people without distinction of age and sex pay visits here seeking for the benefits of "better fortune and protect from evil" and "wishes fulfillment" to resolve worries of love or exterminating bad luck. Precincts and the main hall built utilizing stage structure which stands on a steep cliff, provide you superb views of Onomichi.
Tennei-Ji Temple, Soto Buddhism
One of the temples of "Onomichi 7-Temple Tour". This temple is called "Temple for illness healing prayer". Image of Binzuru, the primary disciple of Buddha, enshrined on your left in the main building, has been called "Rubbing Buddha" and is believed that your affection part will be healed by rubbing the same part of the statue.
Jiko-Ji Temple, Nishiyama-Zenrin-Ji sect of Jyodo Buddhism
One of the temples of "Onomichi 7-Temple Tour". Big stone gate, made with 36 pieces of stone cut and carried from Nichirin-San in the back of the temple is said that the power from those big stones lengthen the lifespan when passing the gate. Temple is also famous for its beautiful seasonal flowers and called "Hydrangea Temple".
Observatory of Jyodo-Ji mountain
The observatory locates on the top of Jyodo-Ji San mountain, 178.9m above sea level. One of three Onomichi mountains. You can enjoy the cityscape of Onomichi, Onomichi Channel, Mukaishima Island and islands along Shimanami Kaido. Also popular for its as sunset and night view, especially shining golden Onomichi Channel.
Osode Tenman-gu Shrine
Michizane Sugawara worshipped as the god of learning was shrined and many examinees pay visit here in the exam season. Also popular for location-site tours as having used in movie film "I Are You, You Am Me", directed by Nobuhiko Obayashi for the scene of student's rolling down the stairs, and also some appearances in an anime "Kamichu!".
Onomichi Seaside Museum
On the wall of Onomichi Channel Promenade exhibits artworks such as the grand prix awarded artworks from "Four-seasons Exhibits of Onomichi city of paintings". The wall is decorated with sceneries of Onomichi city and its people's daily lives for 150m.
Onomichi History Museum
The museum is housed in a renovated building of former headquarter of Onomichi Bank which is an Important Cultural property of Onomichi. This museum exhibits archaeological materials of Onomichi remains from the middle ages and artworks of Onomichi-related writers and artists.
MOU Museum of Onomichi City University
This museum is used as a new place for students and graduates to present and exhibit their artworks, study local art and work on creative activities related to Onomichi.
